Keiffer concedes

Keiffer just delivered his concession speech to a room full of enthusiastic supporters. There isn't too much more to say except that we just didn't get the votes.

I know how appreciative Keiffer is of the support he's received, and he'll thank you for it himself tomorrow.

Results are starting to trickle in

The Sun is about 10 minutes behind the data we're getting internally. It's still very very early, and frankly, our precincts haven't come in quite yet. Stay tuned.

Here we sit... quietly

The war room is now quiet as we await the first wave of results. There are a handful of us sitting around a conference table at FOP staring at laptops. All we can do is wait for the phone to ring.

Come out to the party

You should definitely come on out to our election night party at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 in Hampden. Our supporters are already arriving, the press has been here since 5:00, and we're doing our best to get the last voters out to the polls.

All indications at this point are that this has turned into a very close election - so it's going to be a great party.

Dixon electioneering story goes public

Things have become frenzied here in the war room at FOP, between the planned election nigh activities and now the emerging story Dixon illegally campaigning in polling places.

We're following the advice of our lawyers in pursuing the campaign issue. Unfortunately the issue can't be legally resolved tonight.

The reality is, the law clearly bars candidates from entering the 100-foot zone on election day.  There are photos showing Dixon broke that law. There are photos showing she was talking to people inside the polling place. WBAL-TV even has video showing her walking into a polling place not her own.

Dixon campaign law violation punishable with jail

Maryland State Election Law prohibits electioneering within 100 feet of the entrance or exit to a polling place on election day.  No electioneering means that no canvassing, electioneering, campaigning, or posting of any campaign material is permitted within the zone.

She clearly is campaigning inside the zone and the polling place.  This violation is a misdemeanor punishable by 60 days in jail or a fine of $500. If convicted, a candidate cannot hold office for a period of 5 years.

Here is the actual language:

Article - Election Law
§ 16-1001.
      (a)      A person convicted of a misdemeanor under this article for which no penalty is specifically provided is subject to a fine of not less than $10 nor more than $250 or imprisonment for not less than 30 days nor more than 6 months or both.

      (b)      A person who is convicted of any criminal violation of this article shall be disqualified permanently from serving as an election judge, board member, or employee of a board.

      (c)      A candidate who is convicted of any practice prohibited by this article shall be ineligible to be elected or appointed to any public office or employment for a period of 5 years following the date of the conviction.

ALERT: Dixon caught campaigning in polling place

A Mitchell volunteer took these photos of Sheila Dixon campaigning INSIDE Fallstaff Middle School at 3:45 p.m.

Our witness confirmed she approached and spoke with multiple voters, in addition to election officials, inside the voting room for approximately 10 minutes.

Prior to entering, she loitered outside the polling place, but well inside the 100-foot perimeter dictated by law.

No, this was not her personal polling place.

Here are links to the higher res images.

Dixon campaigning INSIDE polling places

Just got a report that Dixon and her campaign volunteers are literally INSIDE polling places to try to persuade voters. It's highly illegal to do that. First report came from Ward 8, Precinct 10 - Fort Worthington Elementary School 85.

Note from Keiffer in the field

Just got an email from Keiffer, who has been visiting polls across the city all day meeting voters.

Things are going really well out here, but we've got to to get more people out to vote. It's just too important.

We're getting great feedback from the people we're meeting at the polls. This race is a lot closer than people realize.

I'll check in again later.

- Keiffer
